I decided to see how these forums were and to see if there are like minded Remington fans here.
I recently purchased a model 71 from my local gun shop and the barrel and rifling cleaned up better than I could have ever hoped for. There are some stains on the stock, I think I will try to polish it before I think about refinishing.
My eyes are not what they used to be so maybe a scope and mounts. I am personally partial to Meopta scopes but maybe something more traditional?
My Remingtons are an old rolling block in 7mm passed down through the family.
A 798 Remington, 783 , 770 that I could not pass up it was very cheap and new. And a Marlin 336 that I bought sometime after Remington acquired them.
There is an 03-A3 at my local shop that I am going to investigate further, and also a Nylon 66 but it’s pretty rough.
Hopefully I enjoy this and can learn something.
First post- just acquired a 721
Re: First post- just acquired a 721
Just wanted to update, refinishing the stock, sanded it for 3 days until it was perfect. Just applied the fourth coat of thinned tung oil, next coats will be tung oil at full strength. It is looking absolutely amazing. I have polished the bluing with Flitz polish and cannot wait to finish and see how it turned out after assembly.
Just have to decide what scope to mount. LGS has a Springfield Armory for $700.00.
Thanks
