Trying to date a 20ga Remington Sportsman

Post by tstaff »

I have an old Remington 20ga that I got from my father. it is a 3-shot and on the receiver it is roll stamped with "The Sportsman" and 3 birds on the left side and with 3 birds on the right side. The serial number stamped on both the receiver and the barrel is S4443. On the left-hand side of the barrel right above the foregrip and next to the receiver, it is stamped FULL LA. If I'm reading the codes correctly, this would indicate a manufacture date of Feb 1932 but could use some verification. The barrel has a solid (non-vented) raised rib. It still shoots wonderfully, but I have no use for a 20ga shotgun (not a bird or skeet shooter) and am trying to figure out how old it is and approx. how much it is worth. The foregrip and stock are in excellent condition (no splitting or cracking) and neither the receiver nor barrel have any rust or pitting though they both probably need to be re-blued.

Any assistance that could be provided would be greatly appreciated.

Unfortunately the first page for the 20-gauge "The Sportsman" is missing from the old factory ledger. Page 2 begins in March 1937 at 14199. The 20-gauge "The Sportsman" was introduced in 1930. Your Feb 1932 from the barrel date code is as good as you are likely to get.
