Redfield Scope Base Screws Needed

Post by 64Nylon66 »

I have on my Remington 700 BDL a 1 piece Redfield scope base with flip up peep sight and like it so much I bought another one for my 700 ADL. After purchase and during shipping the seller noticed and informed me the mounting screws and instructions are missing. He has offered to make my purchase right but in the event he cannot locate the instructions and more importantly the mounting screws am I stuck? I know I can probably take the base off of my one rifle and compare shop but does anyone know what actually fits my rifle to correctly mount this style of base? I. E. are these screws common, how about length and where might I be able to buy the correct screws? Any and all help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Richard.

Take it to the gunsmith in town; he's probably got a collection of appropriate size screws for that application.
I think the thread is called a 6-48...

You found a rare base with that flip-up aperture sight integral with the unit, I think!
Rumor has it that Leupold has picked up the Redfield line of products ( I thought it was some other company, for some reason; Meade perhaps? and some of the Weaver stuff looks suspiciously like old Redfield... ).
Anyway, wouldn't it be nice if someone DID make the old sights/bases like you found?

I've been switching out to Picatinny style mounts on most of my guns after having a Redfield setup finally decide to almost weld itself to the rifle. Not the mounting setup's fault, just my preference at the time to switch over.

Good Luck on getting your parts.

Thanks for the info in regards to the 6-48 screws. You are correct in that Redfield was picked up by Leupold but no warranty or service coverage. ABO, Inc. and Iron Sight Co. do Redfield work but you have to pay. Check out their websites, appear to be very helpful and informative. Redfield lost out about 10 years ago on a heavy fine from the EPA from ground water contamination at their Colorado plant and now there is none. Found all this out doing research on finding the mounting screws. Maybe this info will help others. Thanks for your reply. 64Nylon66 (Richard).
