Model 14-1/2 44 REM 44 W.C.F

I am sure this has been discussed many times, but I cannot come up with a search string that will work on this site. A buddy got a 14-1/2 last year and runs fine with 44-40. But, we can find no information as to what cartridge the 44 REM is. I found the 44 Remington Central Fire, but the rim is too big and the base diameter is too small. Can someone please enlignten us?

A 44 Rem is just another name for a 44-40. It was also called a 44 WCF(Winchester Center Fire), 44 Win, and the Spanish called it a 44 Largo as I recall.
