provenance on this model 11 shotgun

Post by DALHAWAII »

I recently purchased this early model 11 Remington shotgun SN 158404 with a fully engraved receiver. Model 11-b with a 28" barrel. On the side engraving says John Montgomery appreciation of Remington Typewriter Band. Any help in identifying this? Thank you.

There was a Remington Typewriter Company Band. I don't recognize the name John Montgomery. The term "fully engraved" probably needs discussed more. If the engraving is standard or if the engraving is from the custom shop can help determine the level of appreciation. Standard wood usually accompany standard engraving while higher grade wood came with presentation pieces.

This might just be a thank you to someone who helped the band or a presentation piece that was awarded for a greater service.

I think the engraving falls under what is called D grade with scrolls, linear and arrows over the receiver and trigger plates. Thank you for your response. It also has dark blueing and checkered stocks.
