I own two Remington Pump Rifles, a .35 Whelan conversion (converted before factory run) and a special run 25-06 (Grice). I am interested in acquiring or converting a rifle in a 6.5 caliber to act as my general purpose use rifle. Can you help me locate a source for either the conversion of a standard caliber to 6.5 (barrel replacement? re-bore?) or special run?

I dont know the answer to your question, but I have been thinking along similar lines myself, and have been leaning towards a 25-06 or a 257 Bob. So I have to ask, what will the 6.5 do that the 25-06 or 257 Bob wont do?
Also, do you have any thoughts on which you prefer, the 760 or the 7600?

On a realistic basis, probably nothing.
Although at the very tip of performance it allows the use of a better balistic coefficent bullet as well as a heavier bullet. The long range target people I read about and talk to seem to be very excited about the various permutations such as the 6.5 Creedmore or 6.5x55 Ackley Improved. They are also pretty universal about believing that the quality (consistency is better for 6.5 than .257 bullets.
I just want one because it appeals to me I currrently use a 6.5x55 set up as FRancis Sell recommended for my deer hunting and think that a "scout rifle pump 6.5" would fit my needs the best even if I never hunt elephants.
