E. Remington & Sons New Model 1859 - many questions for you guys
I saw this advertised on GunBroker awhile back with lots of rather poor pictures, hard to distinguish so I decided to take a chance and buy it just to see what it was. The top of the barrel is marked "E.Remington & sons Ilion New York USA" the bottom flat of the barrel simply a stylized "R", right side of the barrel is marked NEW MODEL 1859, left side of the barrel simply Cal. 44, cylinder is marked with a number 465100 and in front of that a stylized "R", grip frame bottom marked with the same number and another stylized "R", left grip panel has a small oval with "inspector" initials, however, after taking the grips off, there is a stamped number 6455 on the frame and the same number inked on the right grip panel. I'm 100% certain this is a modern reproduction but no idea of built by whom or to commemorate what purpose. It is unfired and has excellent cycling and lock up. The bluing on the frame seems to be the only issue as part of the top strap shows a copperish/purplish hue instead of the darker black. I've looked everywhere and not been able to find any into. Perhaps someone here has encountered one of these and can shed some light. Much appreciated.

Hi Oddball,
that is a modern replica. I'm not familiar with all the repos so I can't help any further. I did look for proof marks but didn't see any.
