Hey folks I have a couple Remington Stocks I need to refinish and would like to know if there's a pattern/tool specification I need to run over the checkering when that time comes to refinish these stocks.
Thanks 264Mi

Re: Checkering Patterns/Tool
You need to use a tool with the proper Lines Per Inch, usually marked as LPI. Measure across the top of the points, the number of points in a one inch distance is the LPI.
Patterns are generally used to layout brand new checkering. For the work you describe a pattern should not be needed. You will probably use a longer cutter for straight lines and a shorter cutter for curved lines.
Checkered areas are frequently covered with masking tape during the refinishing process to prevent the new finish from filling up the checkering.

Be advised that not all Remington 'checkering' is actually cut, some is stamped and normal checkering tools will be of no use.
