Here is my newest gun purchase. Before buying it I searched the forum for information on it and only found a small bit of info on a post of 720 stocks made way back in 2010. I also looked in John Lacy's book where he has a small chapter on the 720. He has some random serial numbers listed in his book mine is serial# 41173 which would put it's production somewhere in early 1942 according to the book. According to Lacy's book mine would be a model 720-S "Special" because of it's 24" barrel. I also have read in a few articles that approximately 2400 to 2450 total model 720s were made of which mostly were in 30-06 Springlfield !! I have read that 100 rifles or less were in 270 win and 257 Roberts with the 257 being the rarest of the bunch.
Anyway here are some pictures of my gun. The receiver on mine has not been drilled where many were drilled aftermarket with scopes mounted. Mine also came with original sling strap.
I would love to learn more about these model 720s so if anyone out there has information please post it and also post pictures of your guns !!
Thanks and I hope some of you find this interesting !! John Taylor

Re: Remington model 720
I did a little bit of exploring and found the under side of butt plate is also stamped with serial number as is wood under plate as well as barrel channel !! Also some hand written initials in receiver channel similar to many Remington's I have owned probably inspector marks.
