Remington 870 16 ga 1951 with choke

I just purchased a Remington Wingmaster Model 870 16 ga made in March 1951. It has a choke and is in fair shape. I know you can't give a specific value but can you give a ballpark figure of what it might be worth? I paid $159.00. Also will it hurt the value to refinsh the stock? The varnish is peeling off. I bought it more because I had a 16 ga as a kid and it was stolen several years back. Sentimental purchase I guess. Thanks, Dan
