I recently purchased a model 700 bdl in .300 Remington Ultra Magnum. I bought it because my dad had a lefthand 700 bdl for as long as I can remember and I loved that gun, but i'm not a lefty. I noticed a few different things about these two guns, other bdl's in stores, and what is advertised on remington's website. First, my dad's old 7mm Rem Mag Lefty has skipline checkering, the fore-end spacer isn't white but tan/yellowish (pistol grip cap and butt cap spacers are white, staining?), it doesn't have crossbolt receiver plugs, and the receiver is marked Model 700 LH (nothing about BDL). My new gun has no skip-line checkering as advertised on the website just solid 22 line per inch checkering or so I guess, has 2 sets of crossbolt receiver plugs (as opposed to one set in pictues on website, short vs. long action receiver or magnum?), has no safety key device on end of bolt as stated in owner's manual, and has nothing mentioning that its a bdl on receiver or barrel just 'Model 700'. I recently saw a new in store bdl .30-06 that had the skipline checkering and it looked awful, nothing as beautiful as my dad's old gun's skip-line checkering. Also was wondering if anyone knows what the fore-end cap, pistol cap, crossbolt receiver plugs, and white spacers were made of (plastics, ebony, rosewood?). And what does BDL stand for, I've heard B-grade Deluxe, but wasn't sure. Thanks.
