Remington 760 Fore End Bolt

Post by JasonC »

I am trying to put on a new swivel to my 1961 Remington 760. I would like to note that the 760 changed style in 1968, so this is the earlier style.

Uncle Mike sells replacement swivels that they say "replaces the factory fore-end bolt without dismantling."

Here is a picture of my rifle:

Here is a diagram of my rifle:

Here is a picture of the uncle mike's swivel, with the a picture of the action tube cap next to it:

As you can see, the uncle mike's bolt that replaces the factory fore-end bolt is much larger than the threaded bolt that goes in the action tube cap. How is this part supposed to fit on my rifle?

Thanks in advance,

The forend support on the 760s changed in the mid 60's but I can't remember the exact year. I remember running into the same problem in the 80's with a rifle in 257 Roberts. The only solution then and I believe now is a barrel band ahead of the forearm support.

Sooo...141...what room do you keep the 760 in 222? Just kidding, but reading your post made me realize I have one of the short screw type somewhere. JasonC, if I can find it. I'll let you know, but it will be a while as I'm leaving for a weeks deer hunting in a few hours.

Thanks for the info. I guess Uncle Mike's website just has it listed incorrectly.

1968 and older is listed as the 1221-2 (bolt type) and 1969 and newer is listed as 1441-2 (band type)

http://www.uncle-mikes.com/products/rem ... _69on.html

1969 and newer are the 760's where the entire pump assembly moves with the action, to include the pump tube, right?

Mine the pump tube does not move, like an 870 shotgun.

I prefer barrel band swivel mounts. they don't rattle or allow ths sling to twist.
