Dear Forum Readers,
I'm attempting to verify information that a shipment of an estimated 115,000
Remington rifles were dispatched to Russia on the U.S. Army Transport Ship Thomas in early 1918 which landed in Vladivostok. U.S. Army soldiers forming the AEF Siberia were also on this ship as well. I was instructed by the historian from Remington Arms to place a request on this site.

Re: Remington Rifles Sent To Russia In 1918
Old post--those Mosins were shipped to Vladivostok to arm the Czech Legion, most were stored at Benicia Arsenal, CA, intended for use by non nationalized US national guard units, who were sending their M1903's to arm active duty units in France, and also for ROTC and SATC training units in the US. These Mosins are likely to have US inspection eagles on the stocks and metal.
The US Army troops sent to Vladivostok were armed with M1903s, not Mosins, however, the US Army units shipped to Archangel and Murmansk were indeed armed with US made Mosins that had been embargoed in Britain after the Bolsheviki took power. These rifles were already in Britain and would not have any US markings. These Mosins were also left in Russia when US troops were evacuated.
