I am new on the forum, from France, I have a 1858 New Model with 2 different serial numbers:
#125313 under the barrel
#127614 on the grip.
It shows the acceptance cartouche on the left hand grip, but no NEW MODEL marking on the barrel (unless it has been erased).
It has been kept in an attic for decades and might be one of 1858 purchased by the French in 1870.

Welcome to the RSA site. The serials were both made in Jan., 1865. My guess is that the bbl was damaged and replaced, but you would think if that were the case, that the frame number would be lower than the bbl number. It is also possible that the frame failed inspection, and it was scrapped, with all the parts being put on the new frame.
There will be a number on the inside of the trigger guard tab. Does that number match either of the other two numbers? If it does match one of them, I'd guess that the failed part was the non-matching part.
The gun is a New Model, and maybe the "New Model" didn't get stamped on the bbl. If it was stamped, it would be the third line and maybe be gone, or covered by corrosion.
Enjoy your pistol. It must have some interesting stores to tell, if it could only speak.
