I have posted before without reply. I am restoring an 1889 12g Remington that was my Great Grandfathers found in very rusty condition. This is purely sentimental and am not very concerned with maintaining the value of the gun...
Basically I cannot decide how far to go with my restoration. Does anyone have an opinion on if I should re-blue parts or just leave as is? Most of the metal was very rusted and now cleaned up with some pitting left and little sign of original bluing left... If I do not blue I am concerned about future rust and in that case I guess I use gun oil to reduce rusting... Any suggestions?

Re: Restoration Question
Sorry for any delay on replying. Me personally if its only for sentimental reasons I would not refinish it. If its pitted like you say the refinish job most likely would not turn out as good as you would like.
