Im new here. Hope Im doing this correctly. Im looking for some direction. I fell in love with 32s as a kid but always bought guns I could shoot. Finally had the chance to buy a good 32. And I want more. I now have what I think is a near pristine 32 standard grade with 30” barrels and a solid rib.
The gun is in better shape than some of my 5 yr old shotguns. I will attach some photos.
My problem is the stock was cut. It has a pad and spacer that bring it up to 13-1/2”. The wood is 12-1/2” LOP. Its a shame, although the gun is beautiful regardless. The wood is beautiful. I’m not sure what standard grade wood usually is but the ones Ive seen don’t look like this.
I don’t know what to do with it. Its from a sort of famous private collection. I can’t find a stock. Do I leave it be or have something done with it. I could have Del Grego restock it perhaps, but not knowing what its worth or what that might do to its value I cannot determine what amount is an investment and what might become just gun silliness.
14-1/2” would be nice but I’d also like to be 40 again. Id like to shoot at least one clays round. Doesn’t seem to need one single thing mechanically.
Hope the photos came thru.

Thanks for that information. That looks fine. Hadn’t seen a pad that size.
Just noticed you have an early one. That’s next for me.

Re: 32 30” Standard Grade
Do you know where you got that pad or model. I can’t find it. I like the period correct orange. I did find a Galazan grind to fit in orange with 1-1/2” LOP. Its a pre WWII reproduction but it has very sharp edges that would be difficult to radius evenly. Yours is beautiful.
Re: 32 30” Standard Grade
The Galazan is what I used, sand to give the shape and finish you want. Wax with Renaissance Wax for a nice low shine!

Re: 32 30” Standard Grade
The stock that is on it has been altered so collector value would not be impacted by another stock, assuming equal quality of wood, fit, etc. I would get it restocked if it were me.
What could have happened... did.
