However I just picked this up. From what I can gather from my copy of George Laymans book on Military Remingtons, it is a Remington made Model 1867 Swedish Rifle in 12.17 x 44.
It has the 2 line address on the tang, concave BB with rimfire and centrefire pin holes. Short bayonet lug and the sight marking have been struck out and altered.
He mentions they should have American Walnut stock and a small steel nosecap that I dont think this has.
This has the number 18585 on the barrel , fore end wood and all bands.
The butt stock has the number 5797 on the LHS and an H over 1873 on the RHS. The fore end has 1868 on the RHS. The wood color looks very light as if its been refinished. and the BB and hammer look in too god a condition. It has a half cock notch.
Any thoughts?
