Model 700 value (1st year?)

Post by Mark »

Good morning, everyone!

New member here in Montana & very glad to join & have this resource.

I have a Model 700, sn 35429, 30-06, 20" barrel, fleur-de-lis checkering.

I think the date code on the barrel is "JA". I've emailed the factory & am waiting to hear back from them as to year built but I'm trying also, to determine the value.

Can anyone tell me the year built & approximate value of this nice Remington? I'd say condition is about 90% (very good).

Is this the "Mountain Rifle" or "Carbine"?

My neighbors wife wants to pay me a couple hundred dollars for this rifle as a present for her husband & while I like these people, I'm not inclined to give my gun away & am trying to determine it's value.

With thanks & regards,

Mark

Welcome to the RSA. There is a section on the site that will tell you how to date your rifle using the barrel code on the home page. The early 700s like yours are the nicest 700s. The 30-06 is a common caliber so it will not bring a premium like some. The 20" barrel which soon turned to a 22" would be a carbine. The mountain rifle came out later. As of value its hard to give without seeing the rifle. Going by the NRA grading standards. If your rifle is a 62 to 68 model 700. ADL model I would say 400.00. BDL model 450.00.
