Does Anyone Know About Shot Guns Pre-1845??

Does anyone out there know which long barrel gun, rifle, or musket would have been used in Texas in 1845? What would the U.S. military have been using at that time? I just need a model and briefest of descriptions. Any information relative to this request will be extremely appreciated.
