Remington Military Rifles
Remington Military Rifles
I have three Military Remington mfgd rifles: French MLe 1907/15; modified British Enfield sr#314xxx; Russian Remington Armory sr#4. These rifles are from the Phineus Collection and are supposed to have been used in the 1917 test trial with Turkey. My question is any way to substantiate this? The guns are absolutely MINT with matching bayonets. I would appreciate any help available about these fine weapons. Thanks.
Re: Remington Military Rifles
One night I was watching a TV program and they were talking about antique's.
The person that did the apprasials said that if every piece of furniture that he had appraised - that people said belonged to King Louis XIV, was from the collection of Louis XIV, the castle would have sank 100 feet into the earth.
There ought to be a museum that could answer your question, that would also claim to be the owners of those firearms.
How is it that you came to be in possession of these firearms?

Re: Remington Military Rifles
Hi Rifleman,
Thanks for the response. I was looking for someone to give me direction as to were I could find verification: ie Remington archives etc. I picked up the weapons from a private collector who had aquired these three plus two 1812 conons from this "Phineus" estate. He was supposed to have some documentation, but has become ill and never forwarded the info when he moved. I'm just looking for some direction as to were I can possibly find out the facts. Thanks.

Re: Remington Military Rifles
What 1917 test trial with Turkey?
The US was at war with the Central Powers, including Turkey, at least after April 1917.
Try contacting the Winchester Museum in Cody Wy for info, they might be able to help.
I would love to see that Russian rifle.

Re: Remington Military Rifles
Sorry! My mistake, the test trials were with Russia not Turkey. The russian rifle is spectacular with the most beautiful "tiger" striped wood.
