There is no such thing as a " model 11 sportsman". The gun is either a Model 11, a five-shot gun, or it is The Sportsman, a three-shot gun --

That said, the butt plate of that era should be a walnut colored bakelite butt plate, much like this one off my Godfather's early Model 870 20-gauge --

However, to really pick some nits, underneath the word Remington it should say in tiny letters "REG. U.S.A. PAT. OFF." while this 1951 vintage plate has "REG. U.S. PAT. OFF."

I can't read the tiny line under the word Remington, but it certainly looks right. I may be the only anal retentive nut case to notice that difference in the butt plates!! :lol:
