Remington Model 8 Serial #

I have a remington model 8 that has a serial # of 69784 but the Henwood Book list the highest serial # as 69490 did the second edition change this number. My friend had it listed a the highest serial number model 8 in his collection paperwork. Any info would be appreciated.
