New to the forum and curious about Smoot nickel plate

I have seen many Smoots and other nickle plated guns, not just Remington with this problem. It is like a bubbling of the nickel plate caused by some impurity under the nickel usually rust. Seems it happens as the gun gets older. It may be caused by impuites on or in the metal that is there before plating. JAY HUBER RSA
