Rolling Block date of manufacture

How would an owner of a Remington Rolling block find the date of manufacture? Mine is a #1 sporting rifle with a serial number of 6016. I read that Remington started making Sporting Rifles in 1868 and stoped 19 years later in 1887. they made about 19,000 of the sporting model. if they did a 1000, per year then mine would be about 1874. that is a long time ago. any suggestions?
