Just like car makers, Remington cobbled up the next years rifles late in the prior year. My bet is yours was made in late November or early December of '67! Check the build date with the letters on the left side of the barrel just ahead of the receiver. They'll likely be an R or X and a P

The barrel date code is "D R". That's September of 1968.
That fits the information you posted.
Serial numbers aren't all that reliable for dating these things.
