It was made in 1910. I don't think that any changes were made to the M/12 when Rem changed the caliber stamps to S, L, LR.

That doesn't sound good.... How's the bore? Even with a not-perfect bore the bullet should clear the end of the barrel. I would try some different ammo & if it hangs up I'd quit using shorts for sure... Maybe clean the chamber??? Is the headspace sloppy?
