What is the best way to clean older gun without doing damage?

Are you talking about a collectors weapon or just an old family passed on from father to father to son,, if its the first part talk to a gunsmith that specifically handles collector weapons,,if its the latter clean the weapon just like you would any other by using the proper brushes and oils supplied in a cleaning kit
