I was fortunate enough to find a Remington Model 17 for my teenage daughter to teach her to shoot with. The gun is in good shape but I want to order a different stock and forend to be able to modify for her to grow into. Replacing the stock will allow me to retain the original stock for the future.
I have found a stock but am having a devil of a time finding a forend. I have checked some of the usual suspects (Boyd's Gun Stocks, Bob's Gun Shop, etc). I was wondering if there was anything that might be an interchangeable part or fairly close, ie Model 31 in 20ga. I have some woodworking skills, and if necessary I could probably carve one but am really busy (and a lil bit lazy right now).
Any ideas, thoughts would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Re: Model 17 forend/Interchangability
k9rem,
If I remember correctly, Ithaca's Model 37 is based on the M-17
patents. I don't know if it would be easy to find a 37 20 ga forend,
and then fit it to the 17, but this might be worth checking out.

Re: Model 17 forend/Interchangability
Chuck,
Thanks. All of the research, surfing, Googling, etc I have done has told me that the 37 was based of a lot of the patents and design of the 17. I have seen a lot about the metal not being interchangeable, but hadn't about the wood. I might just have to see if I can find an older 37 forend and see. I am sure some modification might have to be done, but I am pretty having with a Dremel.
Thanks again!

Numrich is out of the checkered forearms but has the ringed forearm. Next to last line on page 5 of their Model 17 parts --

Thank You so very much!!! I looked on their site but must have missed it. And I think the ringed one will be easier for her smaller hands. I just ordered it and looking forward to it getting here.
Can't remember if I said this earlier, but it is going to be a birthday present. I am going to do a pink camo on the forend and stock. Not my thing but if it gets my girly girl interested in hunting and shooting, it will be well worth it.
Thanks again.
