The company name changed to Remington Arms Co., Inc. in 1920. From their introduction, as the Remington Repeating Shotgun in the Remington Arms Co. 1908-09 catalogue, they were made for 12-gauge 2 3/4 inch shells. I don't know of U.S. 12-gauge shells being made in a 2 9/16 inch length. That was only for 16-gauge shells. U.S. paper 12-gauge shells were regularly offered in 2 5/8, 2 3/4, 2 7/8, 3 and even 3 1/4 inch lengths back in the day.
If you go to the Home Page and pick Manufacture Dates in the left column, then scroll down and pick "Serial Numbers by date (factory record book), then thumb through to the Model 10 pages you can find the year and month for your gun.
