Remington Autoloading Gun

Post by Researcher »

rrick38

Remington Arms Co. began producing the Browning designed autoloading shotgun in 1906. At the Grand American Handicap held June 18-21,
1907, J.J. Blanks of Trezevant, Tennessee, won the GAH shooting the new Remington autoloading shotgun with UMC shells. When Remington Arms Co. was combined with Union Metalic Cartridge Co. as Remington-UMC in 1911 they started calling the gun the Model 11. The Model 11 continued to be manufactured by Remington at Ilion, New York, until 1948. There were some periods of time, when Belgium was otherwise involved, that Remington manufactured the A5 for Browning Arms Co.

E. Remington & Sons Doubles

Post by Researcher »

E. Remington & Sons made a plethora of hammer doubles between 1873 and going bankrupt in 1888. The earlier guns were Whitmore designed "lifter" models where one lifted up on the toplever to open the guns. They were the Models 1873, 1875, 1876, 1878, and 1879. Conventional sideswing toplever models were 1882, 1883, 1885 and 1887.

To understand this you need Charles Semmer's book "Remington Double Shotguns".

I don't know where you got your serial number information, but 3051 could be an 1873, an 1875, or an 1882.
