1954 870 engraved.

Post by Wease »

I have a 870 with raised pheasant on the left and raised ducks on the right side of the receiver. Extensive deep scroll engraving on the receiver, triger guard, and about ten inches down the barrell. The S.N. indicates it was made 1954 ie 55. Does anyone know anything about this gun?. Also its approximate value.

We'd have to see some good detailed pictures of the gun before we could tell you anything about it. However, with the mention of the engraving ten inches down the barrel it sounds like something done for some GI in post-war occupied Germany or Japan. Factory D or F grades didn't normally have engraving more then 3 or 4 inches down the barrel.

Here are some pics. The engraving is only 6.5 inches on the barrel. Remington said it was made between 1954 and 1955. Would like a rough idea of it's value. Wease

Nice gun. Probably Japanese in origin although it is missing the characteristic "Pointer standing on a sand beach pointing a duck flying over breaking waves."
