Model 11 16 Gauge

I just purchased a Model 11 16 gauge. I am trying to research the mfg. date, but have some contradictions between the serial number and the date code stamp. The serial number is 1583068 and the date code is LUU. I understand LUU to be Feb. 1949. But the model 11 was discontinued in 1948. Also, I thought the 16 gauge s/n's only went to about 1550000.

Another oddity is that it is nickle or chrome plated

Any help is appreciated. I can post some pics.

You are correct the last serial # was1556589 in 1948. Does the barrel and frame carry the same serial? If so it was probably assembled after 48 with the barrel being made then. Cut off dates are not always exact since they make up parts to finish off parts in inventory. I suspect the Nickle was done out side of Remington but I am not sure. Jay Huber RSA
