Please help... Rem 12c noob question

Post by Nanotech »

Hello everyone I am a new member and I am hoping your vast knowledge can point me in the right direction.I bought a Remington pump .22 model 12c with the octagon barrel. After getting it home I noticed the little retainer clip was missing. So I drove about an hour and a half and bought a new retainer but I can't get it to go in uuugh . I took the rifle completely apart and tried every combination to get this little bugger in there. I guess my question is that is there a method to this? Will it only go in one way? Or do I have the wrong one? The date code is 4/23. Please any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

In order for someone to help you, you have to know the correct name for the part you are having trouble with. You can order an owner's manual from Remington Arms that will have a parts list. There are a few books around that should have an exploded diagram. If the problem is too severe a gunsmith is in order. So do some homework and get back to us.

Sorry I should have left the word "clip" out of there. The correct word for the part is "retainer". If you look at the link it is part #18

It fits into a groove on top of the slide and keeps the rounds from getting jammed in the hole on top of the tube magazine under the barrel just in front of the reciever. The rifle will function without it though. If you have a model 12 and that retainer is missing then that probably means that at some point it popped out when someone was cleaning the gun and never put it back in.
