What did I buy? Remington Autoloader

Post by VAFish »

OK guys I need some help from Remington Auto Shotgun Experts.

I picked up a Remington Semi Auto shotgun

It looks like a model 11, but has no engraving and does not say Model 11 on it anywhere. The only marking I can find on the frame at all is the serial number near where the barrel attaches and a Remington stamp on the top tang.

It has the safety inside the trigger guard, which should mean it's pre model 11. But it has a retaining screw which from what I read wasn't added until the the later model 11's.

It doesn't have the fiber cushion in the action, but does have a little post where it should be. (another clue that it is a model 11, not a pre model 11?????)

It has a 28" full choked barrel with a solid rib.

Serial number is 120180 it is on both the action and the barrel. Date code on the barrel is KX3. (which if I understand the date codes correctly is 1929)

Gun has obviously been refinished and restocked (poorly).

I didn't pay much for it and I bought it as a shooter/project gun. From what I've seen of prices if I sell the barrel I'll get my money back.

I'm thinking it may be a parts gun someone threw together since it's combination of features makes no sense to me.

Right now my plan is to order a new set of springs, fiber recoil buffer, and friction rings, then strip it down, clean it well and shoot it.

The bottom tang looks like it's a straight grip. You could modify the stock to match, I think.
Definately need to fit the wood, or it will crack to pieces.
Obviuosly refinnished, but that's ok for a shooter.

I say take off the pistol grip, refinish the wood and have fun!
