Cracked Stock on 870 Wingmaster Circa 1979

Solid walnut. Polyurethane gloss finish. Cracking is not common, but with 10,000,000 out there you will see some. Most likely cause: loose stock bolt or missing bearing plate. If you can work thin 2 part epoxy into the cracks, and then tape the heck out of it with rubber tape until the epoxy cures, you should have a barely visible crack, if they aren't buggered up.
