The 3 stands for barrel replacement. The date code in front of the 3 is the date the work was done.

The letter O stands for 1977. When returned they may have also replaced the stock. Reasons unknown what had happend to the rifle in the past. Are the white line spacers on the stock bright white or are they sort of a yellow gold?
