7600 35 whelen carbine?
hi just seeing if anyone owns one of these rare beasts! i dont think many were made anyone have any info on these?
it appears to be very rare, but i have one!
ii told my father that i was thinking of buying one 22brl. and he said his friend had one and that he would let me shoot the whelen to see if i liked it, he thinks there cannons. so my father said hey i got something for you and there it was a short barrel 35 whelen!! i said to my father noway they never made whelen carbine in the 7600 acording to eugene myszkowski book. but my fathers friend bought the gun new at kmart back in 93-94. its a special purpose finish matte with low gloss walnut wood wich fits for the time period i ran barrel codes it was made in 93.to make a long story short his friend liked his 270 better and said he never used the whelen anymore cause it was hard on his deer meat and shoulder!he wasnt shure about selling it and dad said i was dying to have it so he gave in and now i am one of the luckest men on earth! im huge 7600 pump fan love them.the only other person that claims to have one is the guy on 35cal.com im going to email him soon and ask him about his and see if his is like mine.
Remington made lot's of them.
I believe that there were special runs of 200 back then that was sold by Grice Gun Shop in Clearfield PA.
The 35 Wheelen is nothing more than a 30-06 that is necked up to a .35 caliber.
Increased bullet weight is the only thing that would contribute to more kick, along with the light weight of the rifle.
Grice Wholesale is the regional distributer for Remington.
If you subscribed to The American Rifleman, you would have read an article a few years back on the 760 Gamemaster.
When ever you go west or elsewhere in the country, the 760 Gamemaster is synonomous with Pennsylvania because most of them came out of Grice Gun Shop back in the 60's and 70's and are a favorite of hunters in the state of Pennsylvania.
The 7600 is just a cheap generic version of the 760 with the cheaper action and a lesser grade barrel. No RKW finish or BDL Deluxe versions were ever made in 7600 to the best of my knowledge.
Every couple of years, Remington comes out with a newer version of the .35 Wheelen and makes special runs of that caliber in the 7600.
If you inquire - you can get a flier mailed to your home free of charge from Grice Gun Shop.
