1889 16 Gauge

Post by Ed Blake »

Several years ago I was in a gunshop where a guy had one of these in excellent condition. I traded him a Trapdoor Springfield I had. The gun is a grade 2. The wood is just about as good as it gets and the barrels have a nice twist pattern to them. The bores, however, were a little rough, but cleaned up respectably. I believe the gun was not used much at all, but was cleaned haphazardly. I shoot it with LP load data published by the 16 Gauge Society and it is a clay crusher. I knew nothing about Remington shotguns of this vintage when I got it and I noticed Charles Semmer's ad in the DGJ, so I called him. Nice gentleman. Each of these old American doubles, be they Remington, Parker, LC SMith, etc. have personalities of their own due to the individuality of the manufacturing processes which created them. I'd like to add an 1894 and a 1889 in 12 gauge to my collectiion. Glad I found this site, and am pleased to be here.

Welcome to the site. There are several of us here that play in the Remington doubles game, but if you've talked with Charles Semmer, you've talked with the best!

Here is a nice little 16-gauge Model 1894 for your collection!!
