Remington Model 700 Identification

Post by topherdel »

I am trying to determine the exact model of a Remington Model 700. It is a .270 Win with a stainless barrel, walnut style stock, wrap around checkering (bdl or classic style), there is no black fore end cap. Has a brown butt pad, hinged floorplate. I cannot find a picture that matches this gun anywhere. I don't think it is adl since it has a floorplate but it doesn't seem to be a bdl or cdl since it does not have the black fore end cap. I thought it was a classic but remington didn't make a classic in .270 Win. I'm stumped...

Does the model number give any clues?

Here are a some photos...

The gun would say which model it was.

As far as I can tell. all it is - is a new style Remington Model 700

That gun isn't 10 years old. More than likely it isn't even 5!

Probably why you can't find anything about it.

Remington made lot's of cheapo Stainless Steel Models and it isn't hard to buy a aftermarket stock with a hindged floor plate.

Call Grice Gun Shop and then send them a E Mail and they will give you the answer that you are looking for.

It does say a model 700. I was just trying to find out what variation it was or confirm there is no variation configured as this one is. The closest I can find it to be is a .270 Classic but I see no reference to a stainless barrell for a .270 classic.

As for the date, I was trying to go off the markings.

Did you go back to the Remington Society page and look up the markings?

Most likely that is not the original stock. It is a M700 Classic stock (looks to be an early one from the looks of the recoil pad) on a SS BDL rifle.

I have 3 classics. One from the late 70's when they were regular production rifles, and two from the 80's when they were one cartridge per year limited production.

Yours makes for a nice looking rig.
