The "D X" date code translates to September of 1929.

Thank you for answering. Pardon my ignorance, but looking at that chart I see where the D represents September, but how do I know the X is for 1929 and not one of the other instances of X shown in the chart? Is this because of the particular rifle model? Also, what is the meaning of the symbol after the X or is that not important?

The symbol after the X is probably an inspector's mark. In the link I posted before, above the grid with the date codes, there's a diagram of what the marks indicate. This should be a larger image.

You have a first year (1909) Model 12-A. It's actually a Pre-Model 12. Rem didn't give their "New Repeater" a Model # until 1910. Some barrels were stamped with Model 12 starting in 1910 and some were not stamped until 1917. The RW stands for "Remington Works", the internal name for the factory.
