a *different* 513T question

Post by mzimmers »

Hi, all -

Just joined the group; I'm looking forward to the experience.

I have in my possession a 513T that belonged to my dad. I figure that it's at least 60 years old. I've recently started back in with the shooting sports, and I would like to put a scope on this rifle. The problem is that the holes tapped into the barrel for optics are much too far apart for a two-piece mount system. The distances between the holes are:

- 7/8"
- 6 1/2"
- 7/16"

for a total distance of just over 8". I'm guessing that I need to put a one-piece Weaver-style rail on this, and then rings on that. Can anyone shed any light on a source for such a base, or suggest a better alternative?

Thanks...

Wow...you weren't kidding about the prices on those used target scopes. That's out of the question for my application -- I simply don't use that rifle enough to justify such a purchase.

I think I will contact a company that makes bases and see if they will make for me a one-piece Weaver-style base. Then I can mount this old Vari-X II that I have on it without drilling any new holes.

Thanks for the information, though...now I know a little more about this old gun!
