The barrel stamp reads: P D 33 when I checked for a manufacture date on this site it states June 1957 for the barrel markings. This is one year before they were suppose to sell or make them. Can anyone help me with this. Was the gun made a year earlier before being released? Help
Thanks
By my calculation, that's only about six months from June '57 to January of '58. I doubt that you know exactly when it was actually delivered to the gun shop that sold it in '58.

You don't think the manufacturers make this stuff up ahead of time so they can get them to the distributors and then to the gun shops? Think again.

I've got a Remington 700 in .30-06 that was made in July of '68 that I personally bought (new) in early '69 (Jan or Feb).

Any ideas?
Where are you getting YOUR information? Specifically the "made" part of it.
The Remington site lists the dates 1958 - 1960. And, it doesn't specify whether or not they were "manufactured", "distributed" or "sold" only in those years.

If you're a manufacturer and you're advertising (to dealers and the public) that you're going to have a product ready to sell by a certain date (like January), wouldn't it be logical to have some of the product available BEFORE that date?
There are more "hands" that these firearms go through than just from the manufacturer to the owner. And, I'm sure that the production capacities are much better these days than they were in the late '50s.

Who knows.......maybe they actually intended to introduce them in '57 and couldn't get enough of them made in time to sell or their production schedules were behind. They were also coming out with other models and calibers around that time......the Model 725 and the 280 Remington. We don't know what happens in the inner workings of these places.

I think what Wulfman is trying to say that assembly of these rifles were made prior to 1958 to gain inventory for the sale and distribution. The date your reading may not be incorrect. The date 1958-1961 was when it was available to the public.
