Post by manitou210 »

Have a chance to buy a Rem 722 in 222 rem, The gun is absolutly 100%
bluing, wood & bore. Oldtimer selling for wife of friend who passed, he claims the original owner bought it new in 50s fired 12 shots and has original box with empties and 8 unfired bullets
he is firm at $700.
I have a 70s 222 Rem 700 HV barrel thats in very nice condition not 500 rounds thinking of selling the 700 and buying this pristine 722 would I be going backwords.

Why not own both? :) ;)

I guess if it were me, I'd try to decide whether I was going to keep it pristine (as-is) or use it for a shooter. If you want it for a shooter, you've already got one.......and sometimes another one with a little more use could be had for somewhat less money. With diligent care, they can be "used" and kept in very good condition. That price isn't a huge amount of money for a rifle anymore.

Some years back (10 - 15 yrs. ago), I had an opportunity to buy a pretty decent 722 in .222 Rem for around $300 but passed on it because I already had two .222s (one in 600 Mohawk and the other a 700 ADL). Unfortunately, in the last few years here in Wyoming, the varmints are fewer and farther between and the gas is too expensive to go out and look for them.

Well the old story that the old man only shot this many rounds out of it and he still has the box of ammo to prove it is as common as the old lady only drove this 1 ton truck with a fifth wheel trailer hitch in the back to the grocery store and to church. First of all it could be 110% true. But again why would you shoot it eight times and put it away. Maybe some do.
I have to agree with Wulfman. If your buying it to shoot what's wrong with what you have. $700.00 for what you describe sound like a high, but fair price. A high fair price. I live by the theory. "if it's for my collection, and I really want it then the price isn't to high". If your buying it in hopes to resell and make money walk on by.
