Remington 12A

Post by BCKID »

Good day; New guy here. I just realized what a gem I have had in the closet for 40 or so years. I believe I have the Remington 12A. My Grandfather gave it to me, not even sure when. It's in not to bad of shape, Just needs a little cleaning. The s/n is in the low 100,000's but it also has RW stamp above s/n, both underneath. It also has in front of the rear sight ( PEDERSEN'S PATENTS. JANUARY 5,1909.OCTOBER 12.1909. MARCH 8.1910. APRIL 5 1910.) It has the Remington trade mark stamp behind the rear sight and also 22 short, long or long rifle. Any idea of the manufacture date? Nice to know a little history about it. Thanks BCKID

Model 12-A

BCKID:

Serial numbers for the Model 12 started at 104,042 in 1911 and ended at 106,538. Your "Low 100,000s" description leaves a bit to be desired for me to determine an exact mfg. date. The Model 12 started in 1909 (at serial #1) and was produced until late 1936, when it was replaced by the Model 121. Over 831,000 were made.

If you want a lot more info on the Model 12, check out the book offered on the home page of this website.

Woops, I slipped a year. 1911 production started with 55,105 and ended with 104,041 so your rifle was made in 1911. 48,937 were made that year.

Sorry to be so brief. The 1909 production ended with #14,286; 1910 ended @ 55,104. We are installing a DSL line today together with new phones. Not a pretty sight.
