Remington 14A Deluxe Need advice/info
Remington 14A Deluxe Need advice/info
I just purchased what appears to be a high grade or deluxe Model 14A. The stock has the metal crescent buttplate and checkered grip. The wood is high/select grade and the forend is not grooved, but checkered. The caliber is 32 Remington. The receiver condition is approx 85% blue, barrel 90%. There is no engraving. The barrel is stamped 14A. The barrel has a dovetail and slot for a wheel sight but the rear sight is not present. There is a Lyman 56 receiver sight. There is no brush guard on the tube. The bore is excellent.Serial number is C92XX. There is no date code. I would appreciate any opinions/thoughts you may have. This is the first higher grade Remington 14 that I remember seeing. I understand these higher grades were 14C 14D and 14F. Does Remington issue letters on specific firearms such as Colt does? I am interested in what year of manufacture this might be and ideas on value. Any recommended books to research this gun? Any info you have is appreciated. (At this time I do not have photo ability.)

From your discription you have a 14-C. The serial number indicates the receiver was made in 1913. The fact that there is no brushguard is correct for such an early rifle. The lyman sight is not factory and was not a special order item. Remington does not provide letters. If you are able to send a picture in the future, I would like to see your rifle. For the time frame the buttplate was special order. Does it have a pistol grip cap? If you are close to the Remington plant at Ilion, there is a RSA display of graded 14 rifles there. They will be there untill next summer. Any questions, you can contact me at shot1too@aol.com.
