Rolling Block ID Please

Post by joesquid »

I know you fellas have answered a bunch of these questions but none seem to match my gun. OK, Here goes:

Barrel length is 23". A rough measurement of the bore is .5". It is stamped with "Remingtons Ilion N.Y. USA
Patent May 3rd Nov 15th 1864 Apr 17th 1865"

It has a sling mount on the trigger guard only. None on the single barrel strap. It has a steel butt plate. The gun is in almost too good of shape. Maybe reblued? Still Very nice steel and stock.

Appreciate any help in identifying it. An idea of the value would also be appreciated.

Remanufactured Remington

It would appear that you have a remanufactured carbine, perhaps better described as a parts gun. The frame is from a rifle (hence the sling swivel on the trigger guard) and the barrel is from a M1867 Navy carbine (frequently available on the parts market) which is why it has a serial number on the left flat. The rear sight is of the Springfield Armory M1868/70 type. The buttstock appears to be new made.
