870 Police Magnum

Post by tomday »

I have an 870 Police Magnum that came in a box stamped as a Model 5020- 20", Blue, 12ga, Wood Stocks, Bead Sight, Cylinder Bore Barrel. This gun is circa 1995 per the factory. On the left side of the barrel the letters CP are stamped along with the number 85. What do these stampings mean. Was also curious as to what the difference is between "cylinder bore barrel " and "improved cylinder"? My barrel is stamped "CYL". And lastly, a good friend who is well versed in Remingtons once told me that while he attended a Remington Factory Amorers Course, an instructor told him that 870 Police barrels are often the left overs or rejects from the commercial or civilian side of the factory. I kinda think this may be true as one of my 870 Police Magnums has an inconsistent blue finish(possible caused by not polishing it enough before bluing process) and sloppy silver solder welds at the barrel coupler and bead sight platform. Does anyone know if this is accurate as my receiver and stocks are perfect.

It also appears as if Remington is no longer offering the 20" Magnum in Blue.

Thanks in advance and great forum!
