They have squirrels and rabbits as well.....
Thanks John! But -

OH MY GOSH!! :)

OK - back to the drawing board on this one for me.. :) I think the only thing I can say - with some degree of certainty - is that I'm certain I know nothing about these fine old Model 12s..!! :shock: :D

That being said - I can't wait to receive your book and begin the journey in learning much about these .22s! In the meantime - I'll not give up trying to find out more about this one - and for that - you have my thanks as well in sharing your knowledge & expertise in this thread!

(BTW - I already collect two other types of firearms, which are as confounding as these..! For that - somehow I think I'm being pushed down that "slippery slope" of beginning perhaps another journey into Model 12s.. And, remember - I just wanted to get a "nice 12" to shoot and enjoy as I did my grand-dads..!!! :) )

My thanks again!

Also - I have no idea if/what this means anything....?? I was cleaning up this 12, and when I open the ejection port to expose the inside of the receiver - there is:

an upside down "J";
a "L" (right side up, just under the "J");
and a "9" to the left of both letters (ummm - or a "6" if it was struck upside down?);
and finally - an upside down "S" at the rear most part of the visible area inside receiver?

I don't know if that means anything to you, John or Loren, but thought I'd mention it, as I just found them??

Best to you!

John

To the bestr of my knowledge the marks inside the gun are inspection markings. They indicate that certain processes were done during production. I thought I would give you one more observation I have seen concerning the grip cap. On the model 14, the cap was a special order item on all grades from "A" to "F". Even the high grade did not come with a cap unless ordered. The same type cape was used on all grades. The fact that yours does not have any writing on it is a problem. A good stock maker could have added one. You have the right idea in doing the research. Best of luck. In my opinion, you have a "D" grade model 12 with some questions!
