info for pre - model 11

Post by bowhunter bill »

hi, i am looking for any and all information on what i think is an pre-model 11 that was given to me by me father inlaw. it is a 12 gauge and seems to be a higher grade due the the engraving and very nice wood used for the stock. the serial # is 49XXX and the saftey in inside the trigger gaurd. it does not have a model number anywhere on the gun. the blueing in still very good with a little ware on the barrel in front of the forarm stock. a small piece of the forarm stock is also broke off. other than that, i would consider it to be in very good condition. i will try to upload photos for you to see. thanks for any help you can give on verifying the model, what grade it is and the value. after reading through this site, i now know it was made between 1905 and 1910 and is a "Remington Autoloading Gun". any other info would be much appreciated. thank you

Looks like a "Remington Autoloading Gun" in No. 4 quality. In 1911 Remington and UMC were combined and the company name became Remington Arms -- Union Metallic Cartridge Co. Shortly thereafter they began calling the gun the Model No. 11 and this grade would be a No. 11D "Tournament" Grade.

thank you so much. how do you get a value for a "Remington Autoloading Gun"? i have been researching this gun for a about a month and have not found it in any book or in this grade. only the model 11 is listed in some collector books dated for 1911 on. i do not want to sell it, but i like know all i can about it. by the way, this is a great web site.
