Hi Guys,
Just wondering why I see a model 14 now and then with the thumbnail safety cutout on the receiver with no thumnail safety?? Thanks!!
Thumbnail Safety cutout on model 14 Receiver??
Re: Thumbnail Safety cutout on model 14 Receiver??
Rem probably had a bunch of receivers on hand and found that the demand for the thumbnail safeties declined so they just used the receivers.
I deer hunted in Northern Michigan as a kid with my dad's 30 Rem. When it's near or below zero, the thumbnail safety is a real pain. Thick mitts or gloves don't work too well...

Thanks for the reply! So you think that Remington did this and they aren't guns someone cobbled together? There is one I'm interested in but was afraid it wasn't original.

I co:bought 26 Model 14 & 141s a while back from one collector. Several were as you describe. It could have been cobbled, but is probably original if its wear appears to be the same as the rest of the rifle.
